Story

Kothamangalam Subbu performed as the lead writer of the story department of Gemini Studios, and was part of the writing process of most of the films produced by them. Asokamitran, famous writer and colleague of Subbu in Gemini Studios, refers to Subbu as the man who could give always give ideas. In his book My Years With Boss At Gemini Studios, Asokamitran says “Subbu was tailormade for films. Here was a man who could be inspired when commanded. Filmmaking was so easy with a man like Subbu around and if ever there was a man who gave definition and direction to Gemini Studios during its golden years, it was Subbu.”

Subbu’s mettle as a story writer was proven even after he quit Gemini Studios, when his novel Thillana Mohanambal, written as a series in Ananda Vikatan, was made into a blockbuster film. His other popular novel Rao Bahadur Singaram was also made into a film Vilayaattu Pillai.

Subbu had also adapted popular English writer RK Narayan’s Mr Sampath and made it into a Tamil film with a female protagonist, Miss Malini.
