Actor

Despite being introduced to the film world only as an actor, Kothamangalam Subbu chose to act in only 18 films. He portrayed an array of characters, including that of Drona in Bhaktha Chedha, a temple pujari in Dasi Aparanji, a local tattler in Thiruneelakantar, and a submissive husband to a shrew in Avvaiyar.

Noting Subbu’s penchant for playing different roles was a person no less than the iconic actor Sivaji Ganesan. This was when he had visited Subbu’s home in the early sixties, asking Subbu to play a role in his production venture, Paavam Mannippu. Though Subbu had left Gemini Studios by then, and virtually ended his acting career, he took up the role Sivaji offered him, and did a cameo as an ayurvedic doctor in the film.
